from Doug Levis 'I have offered over 600 Phillips works and appraised another 300 over the years. I can say that I have only seen three oils and knew of one other that sold at auction 19 years ago. That was the only oil to show up at auction prior to this painting.' Phillips did do some oil paintings, one of which was a pair of murals for a Canadian Pacific Railway Observation Car. The mural’s subject matter was Strathcona Provincial Park and is in the Via Rail Canada Collection. At that time, the artist was living in Banff and still teaching at the Calgary’s Institute of Technology and Art [now AUArts] as well as the Banff School of Art.
