PLEASE NOTE: This lot was sold in an online benefit auction where all proceeds went to the Whyte Museum in Banff, Alberta and there was no Buyer's Premium.; This is an exceptional George Markel, full of detail: from the driving harness and silver and gold-starred bridle to the split reins going to the bit, and gold-starred blinkers. The farmer wears leather chaps, jacket, belt and gloves. After a life of farming Markel took up folk art in his retirement and quickly developed a reputation as an exceptional talent. He died at 96 in 2006.
