PLEASE NOTE: This lot was sold in an online benefit auction where all proceeds went to the Whyte Museum in Banff, Alberta and there was no Buyer's Premium.; Ian Groll was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. From a young age The Rocky Mountain Range was his playground where his parents infused in their children the love of the great alpine outdoors. Ian has expressed his love for nature and the earth through his varied outdoor pursuits over the years: ice climbing, back country skiing and hiking, cycling, and, his most loved activity: sport climbing. It is this sport that his taken him to the many geographical wonders of North America to experience the 'rock' and local culture through rock climbing. Ian graduated with a degree in Photographic Arts from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1991.
