Reference
The original print was a larger image from a wood block titled Zinnias from 1937. The wood block measures 7.25 x 6.25 in. and the intended edition was 30, although Bergman did not typically print out his editions. The drawing for Zinnias was featured on the cover of the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s 1969 show. Smaller or cropped versions of several of Bergman’s botanical subjects were printed from zinc plates on fine paper and affixed to cards for exchange. These were frequently signed and sometimes labeled with the name, but never numbered with a print edition. It is unknown how many of the zinc prints of Zinnias would have been made. Thank you to a family member of the artist who shared this information with us.
