Reference
according to Alan Deacon:
'I am confident the Winter Sleigh Ride painting by Maud Lewis is authentic. The painting is definitely done much later than 1962 as Maud Lewis signed her paintings 'Lewis' or 'M.Lewis' until about July 1965 then she came up with the Maud.Lewis signature. Also the blue loops for shadowing are well defined in 1962/63 the blue would have just been a smudge. The work is a serial image. In other words there are similar paintings but no two paintings are alike. I believe I'm looking at a paper backing. The painting has been done on beaverboard or Masonite. The work looks to be in excellent condition.'
Provenance
purchased directly from the artist in 1969 and by descent to a private collection, Calgary
