Biographical Information
Nate McLeod ~ [21st century] Canadian
Nate McLeod is an artist living and working in Calgary, Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Alberta University of the Arts and is represented by Herringer Kiss Gallery.
Drawing upon a collection of images the artist has amassed over the past two years, McLeod’s recent works adopt the conventions and symbolism of historical still life painting to suggest layered narratives, both personal and universal. The images themselves come from a variety of sources including: screenshots of social media posts; documentation of previous work and the work of other artists; and personal photographs of possessions, food, plants, pastimes, and recent trips. Occasionally, AI image generators are used to expand upon the images by creating variations of the originals. The selection of objects in these works and the way in which they are arranged allude to themes of life, death, and the passage of time.
