according to the consignor, 'The antler provides a raging tide. This and the bone version remind us how the medium is the message. The antler's roughness and shades are more naturalistic, immediate, dynamic, than the pure bone.'
Provenance
The Yacowar-Petrie collection, 50 years in the making, comes from two longtime Calgarians now retired in Victoria, B.C. Anne Petrie was the award-winning CBC TV journalist [Petrie on Prime, etc.] and author [Gone to an Aunt’s]. English/Film Studies Professor Maurice Yacowar had a double stint at the University of Calgary, as the founding [and the first fired] editor of the student paper, The Gauntlet, then as Dean of Fine Arts.
