Reference
Slash-Pile [2007] by Erik Olson was first presented in the artist’s self-curated debut exhibition staged in an abandoned gas station. Painted following a motorcycle journey through the widespread Mountain Pine Beetle infestation across British Columbia and Alberta, the work reflects the vast ecological disruption that left forests of red, dead pine stretching to the horizon. Depicting a logging 'slash pile,' the composition fragments the Canadian landscape into a faceted, Cubist-inflected vision, evoking the legacy of Tom Thomson. The painting belongs to a series produced at the Banff Centre in summer 2007; its largest counterpart is held in the collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts

included in the Mountain Pine Beetle, IDEAL Art Space, Calgary, Canada, 2007; see the artist's website here for image and reference
