MacDonald moved to the Thornhill House, Ontario, in the summer of 1913 after he left his job at Grip Ltd. in Toronto and started painting full-time. - JEH Retrospective 1965-66; In 1974, his son Thoreau MacDonald donated Thornhill House to the City of Vaughan, Ontario. The structure and grounds have been restored and are now open to the general public.)
